It was the winter of 1997, just a few weeks before the holiday season would kick into high gear and there we were, all 12 of us, dressed as evergreen trees and standing in a local park. The environment and tree loss around the world were on the top of our minds, so we had just spent the last few Earth Day celebrations giving away mature trees at wholesale cost to our clients and friends who were willing to plant them in their yards or public spaces. All-in-all we managed to plant about 1200, 3-5 foot trees as our way of giving back to our earth. So why the tree suits? It was time to create our holiday card, holiday trees were now on our mind, and one of our wacky staff got the idea of donning the tree suits accompanied by the tagline “Outstanding in our field.” Get it? Out—standing—in—our—field! Yes it was corny, but we ran with it and sent a donation to American Forests Global Releaf program to plant another 300 trees in honor of our clients that year. It was wacky enough to catch the attention of American Forests magazine. The article shown here went to press in the summer of 1998 and recognized the art270 staff for our contributions to tree planting and our dedication to the environment. The recognition was quite the “treet.”
