Carl is the President and Creative Director of art270. He earned his B.A. in Fine Art (1980) and M.F.A. (1982) from Penn State University in Graphic Design with an emphasis on corporate communications. His Master’s thesis focused on the history and development of the Corporate Annual Report as a marketing tool for business. After finishing graduate school, he worked for several small design firms as a designer and illustrator before accepting a teaching position at Bucks County Community College. After a two-year stay, he was offered a second teaching assignment at Tyler School of Art where he spent ten years teaching as an assistant professor in the graphic design department.
Since his years at Tyler, Carl has taught a variety of art and design classes including the “Business of Graphic Design” and “Graphic Design History” at Arcadia University. He currently teaches design at Bryn Athyn College. He has also presented lectures to a variety of small business organizations on business identity and branding. Carl has served as Vice President of the Philadelphia Chapter of The American Institute of Graphic Arts and continues to serve on several academic and marketing advisory boards for local colleges and organizations. Under Carl’s direction art270 has won numerous awards and has been published in a variety of international design publications including Print, Graphis, Novumgebrauchsgraphik and Graphic Design USA. Carl is an Eagle Scout, a Scoutmaster and a dad to two outdoor enthusiasts.
